One of the most successful and experienced players on the tour today, Grinham had a solid 2010 that showed just how consistent and dangerous a player she is.
She started the year with a surprising quarter final loss to Camille Serme in the Chennai Open in March.
After this loss she reached the semi-final or better throughout the rest of the year except for one tournament.
April saw her reach her 53rd career final at the Texas Open. She was surprised in the final by fast rising Kiwi Joelle King. She followed this straight after with a semi final finish at the Cayman Islands Open, going down to Nicol David in straight games.
July saw her suffer a first round shock loss to Raneem El Weleily in Malaysia. She bounced back the following week with a semi-final place at the Singapore Masters, losing a close five setter to Alison Waters.
In August Grinham reached two further major semi-finals. Back on home turf she once again lost a close five setter to Waters at the Australian Open. The following week she played strong squash to march through to the Hong Kong Open semi-final. Nicol David was in no mood to hang around though and dismissed Grinham in straight games.
Playing back at what she considers her second home, Grinham reached another final at the Heliopolis Open. Although she couldn’t finish final as she was hit with a calf injury leading Nour El Sherbini. This injury caused Grinham to withdraw from the World Open the following week.
She returned successfully in October to reach her 55th career final in Mexico. For the third time in the year David thwarted Grinham’s path for the title.
It must have felt like deju vu in November at the Qatar Classic, as Grinham once more faced David in the climax. Once again it was a straight game loss in her 56th tour final appearance.
Grinham finished the year on a high in New Zealand in December. Returning to the Australian National team, Grinham lead the team, featuring former World Number One Sarah Fitzgerald and Kasey Brown, to victory. They defeated England 2-1 in the Final.
Grinham will continue to be a threat to everyone in 2011 with her smart and athletic play.
