I believe that we all should be striving to fulfill what our dreams and passions are in life, and dedicating oneself to this dream does not come easy, it takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice. No matter who you are or what your passion is, trying to do something as well as you possibly can is challenging mentally and physically and with these challenges comes fear. As my coach always tells me "If it was easy everyone would do it!"
As a squash player I deal with the fear of failing constantly and to prevent it from taking over I have to mentally overcome that fear by reminding myself that if I put in the hard yards and push myself beyond my comfort zone then good things are bound to come. It’s not the winning or losing its embracing the challenge which makes it all worthwhile.
Being on tour at first is all very daunting having to face the big wide world, traveling from country to country and encountering unforeseen circumstances, always pushing your mind and body by setting goals that you believe are achievable, and working through those goals and having to keep all the negative feelings under control. Once I conquer each challenge or obstacle course that I am put up against I feel as though I have learnt and have grown stronger as a person from the experience of trying my best and maybe achieving those goals. I believe that all the things I learn on this journey as a Squash Professional is a huge asset and the most important thing of all is learning who I am and understanding what makes me tick!
