Good morning fellow Squash enthusiasts!
Welcome to my 3rd article. I know, I know I am proberly the slackest when it comes to writing about my month but i'm here! Oh my god what a week it has been. Ive recently just come back from a weeks worth of intense physical and some might say mental training. Either way I am exhausted in a way you wont believe and i'm so ridiculously happy its not even funny.
Ok so our week kicked off on Tuesday, it's a 5 day camp so we can finish at the end of Saturday still being able to have our Sundays rest. (Hence why I am writing this) The look on everyones faces when Nathan the man who was running the show (also my choach) wanted to start the week off with 15 min court sprints with a minimum of 300 sprints in that time. This is where our tourture kicks off, we also fit in the agility test, standing long jump and standing high jump all in the first half an hour of our camp. Much of our first day was testing and seeing if we could beat our records. Each day consists of 3 sessions one before breakfast, one before lunch and one in the arvo, most lasting for 2 hours. This might explain why I was struggeling to walk and actually ended up seeing an osteopath halfway through. He couldn't believe how tight everything was despite my atempt stretching after every session. Actually if anyones ever in Aspley area hit Andy Hepke up (Northside Osteopathy Brisbane), he works wonders with his hands and is a bit of an all rounder using acupuncture aswell.
The early morning sessions were quite easily the hardest. These involved 7k runs, hill sprints, 1k's, regular sprints and some weight circuts. Every session was hard but it seemed that everyone was struggeling with these. The two other session were almost always on court sometimes including my worst nightmare pressure sessions. But I think we all lived for the same thing that week, dinner time. Not necessarily eating dinner (that was great) but just night time. After having a huge day of training all you wanted to do was lie down and chill. What made this so good was everyone was tired, everyone was in pain, everyone was so sore and I think it makes everyone connect because everyone can relate. I made new freinds this camp and got even closer to my older ones. That just one of the reasons this camp is so awesome. So to all the juniors out there even though you've missed out on such an amazing event theres always next year, and please do come because we'd always love to have more.
Besides squash camp I have the Oceania Junior Championships coming up in a week. I am so excited you will not believe. We also have WA kids coming up this weeks prior to the tournament for match practice. Alot of tapering this week and I will keep you all up to date on my progress throughout the week of Oceania.
Love to everyone!!!
