I'm in Vancouver!
I swear I've been at this club before, I think mom and I had a hit (which is a rare and memorable event) on court 5 once upon a time. I'm getting old and struggle to remember the whens and wheres!!
Phil Arthur, the pro here, gave me an awesome opportunity to play in this exhibition with Kasey Brown, Donna Urquhart, and Nat Grinham.
I think I earned my spot! At least I'm sore enough to think that.
Not often enough do I have this opportunity to pit myself against some of the best, for three matches in a row! This is what I will have to be able to do. If I want to win the World Champs, that'll be five big matches in a row.
I won one match, and lost the other two. Losing sucks, but I felt I was right there. A couple steps closer than previously, and a few (okay maybe more than a few) unforced errors, and there I am winning these tough matches. I can see it in my mind, and that makes me want another crack right now!!
But instead, I get to watch the two girls who made the finals today, and I get to be a part of this awesome event.
This is an exhibition event, Evergreen Squash Club Squash Cancer, alongside an amateur event. The club is awesome, with such a great atmosphere, filled with really friendly, fun people. They are no strangers to pro squash, they have some top players here, and they've held a PSA event here for a number of years. So we know they all love squash and are enjoying playing and watching!
There is a silent auction to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society, the pro players are giving to the cause, and there is a buzz around the event, with the local head of fundraising for the CCS attending the event and the function last night.
I'm heading home tonight to Toronto, sad to go! It's been a great weekend. Off to enjoy the last bit of squash.
Next on my schedule is the Harrow Greenwich Open, followed by the Cleveland Classic.
