Feeding your body with the right foods

27 Feb 2014 | Hits: 324

Hi everyone,  Im writing this blog from my hotel room in Kuala Lumpur.  I am here for a tournament that kicks off tomorrow afternoon.

I thought I'd write a blog on nutrition.  I've learnt a lot on the subjet recently having to loose some weight after my injury.  I think most people get confused on what to eat and when to eat it.  You may think your eating healthy foods but just consuming way too many calories?!  If this sounds like you then read on.  If you have any questions, great advice or just want to drop me a comment please do so.

FEEDING YOUR BODY WITH THE RIGHTS FOODS

The one question a lot of people are looking for tips on would have to be nutrition. It is something every squash player, athlete has when wanting to get that extra edge and maybe a way they can improve their health to stay on top of their game. I have learnt a lot in the past year having Marcus Donnelly guide me with what I should be eating, when I should be eating it, what supplement to take and when to take it.  Marcus was involved with kickboxing for many years and had worked in a supplement store, doing a lot of research and asked tons and tons of questions.

CLEAN EATING

Minimize the chemicals in your foods; replace processed foods with fresh and natural foods. Another important factor is to make sure your getting the right amounts of protein and your not consuming mostly carbohydrates. Protein will fill you up and feed your muscles correctly so you’re able to back up day after day.

After instructions to lose weight I tried eating less, starving yourself really doesn't work. I don't recommend restricting or cutting out any food groups altogether.  Being fueled enough to train hard is very important! There is no point in being lean if you can't do the workouts that get you fit!

What has helped me is I cut out all of my snacking between meals (grazing). People say you should graze through the day, snacking on nuts, dried fruit, bars etc but these extra snacks are very high in fat. I now concentrate on eating the right amounts of protein so I stay fuller for longer. If I do feel hungry I will have a protein shake in between meals or snack on low carb fruits like berries, stone fruits, apples.

Another thing to think about is not to eat too much at once, consuming too bigger meals in one sitting will only make you sleepy, sluggish and feeling low in energy. Marcus says it’s like adding firewood to the fire, adding little bits at a time will keep it going, if you put too much wood on the fire at once you will put it out.

So! For those of you looking for "the edge" I would suggest real food and not processed packaged food, consuming more protein less carbs and topping up the fire through out the day and not eating too much all at once.
