The SA Graded Championships were held on the 14th & 15th of March at the Ingle Farm Squash Club. A field of 43 players of all levels, from beginners to Premier League players, including SA professional, Mike Corren, competed in 5 Divisions.
I competed in Div 1 and had my best win ever, by defeating Karadinga Premier League player, Patrick Stevens, in 5 games. Patrick's matrix score is approximately 30 points higher than mine and it was, by far, the toughest match I've ever played in with both of us having to dig deep and call on energy reserves that we didn't know existed! Unfortunately, I lost my semi-final match to SA State Assistant Coach, Andy Edwards, who's been in fantastic form in Premier League Pennant recently.
It was a great experience getting to play against SA's best senior players and to watch some really inspiring matches featuring Mike Corren, who went on to be the eventual Div 1 winner. Our other State Juniors also gained some valuable experience playing against tougher, senior opponents and this will hold them in good stead as they prepare for Australian Junior Championships later in the year.
I would like to thank the Ingle Farm Squash Club, The Salisbury Council, Ramelec Electrical, Rise Vineyards and Karakal for supporting this fantastic event. Also a special thank you to Grant Norman for organising and Directing the Championships.
